Re: Devon Yawls at Shoreham: Where are you?

hi Alan : let me have your email address, and we can chat directly. Not sure I will be able to make the race on 12th May: DY78 lies aground at low water, and, having checked the tides, even on her new berth she is not likely to be afloat before 2 or 3pm that day. I also generally have to sail singlehanded, which makes racing problematic. But, given that we potentially have so many yawls at Shoreham, it would be good to have some exchange of views between yawl owners at Shoreham, and possibly arrange a 'cruise in company' at least.

Hello Martin, it is my yawl in the river DY344 - I would welcome the opportunity to sail with another yawl, establish whether the boat has been set up to sail efficiently, and points well having changed some of the rigging. Maybe we could find a mutually convenient date and meet up? SYC have the Black Rock race on Saturday 12th May setting off generally east of the harbour entrance, around the the mark off the marina and back again - maybe another opportunity if conditions are suitable. I have the contact details of the owner of the pale blue yawl at home I believe, but I am not certain if he still lives locally, but I will ring and say hello. Also I have contacted Bosham sailing club re their classic day, as another chance to sail with other yawls - I am really hoping to use the boat a lot this year. Best regards Alan

Hi Martin. May I suggest the only way is a direct approach to each owner by email or telephone. The Membership List should have contact details, and if by chance one or two do not appear in the current list then try Dave Toms the Mem Sec who may be able to track back. If you could get the boat number from the aft cockpit label that would be a great help. The Dayboat DD30 is owned by a member who lives in Shoreham, and the member owning DD66 while the boat may be kept in France the owner lives in Lewes not far from you. Good hunting.
Devon Yawls at Shoreham: Where are you?

There are at least 4 Devon Yawls apparently based at Shoreham, at the Sussex Yacht Club.

My own DY78 is afloat alongside the club jetty, one yawl is on moorings in the river, and two seem to be permanently ashore in the boat park. There are also rumours of a Dayboat at the Club somewhere, although I have never seen it. But, apart from my 'Jenny P' , as far as I know, none of these have been used in the last couple of years or more. Is there any chance to get 2 or more of us on the water together?

Hi Tom and All. My two pennyworth from the AGM/EGM, re the voting proposal amendment to the Constitution. While it was agreed the present situation was unfair on those far flung members unable to attend an AGM or EGM, discussion threw up a few issues that needed further thought into and clarification how such a system would actually work, and possible negative effects such a system may have on debate, attendance, etc. The Minutes should be out in three to four weeks.

With the AGM a week ago I had thought something would have appeared by now as to what happened about the Class Rule changes. The Minutes should be out in three to four weeks time. Anyway, meeting was good with plenty of discussion. 14 members plus 4 committee were there. 2 items of CRs approved; 6.1.iv sail construction, and 9.0.ii insurance. All the other changes were voted down. It is intended that boats attending the Nationals will be weighed and other checks. Ted
